Labor Day usually marks the last day of summer here in America. But the blissful summer days really end in October. This year it ended on Sunday, October 28th as the Boston Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies, winning the fourth game 4-3.
Now, as the famous poem reads, there is no joy in Mudville for the baseball season is over. Many good and patriotic men and women now find themselves going through withdrawals.
I was lucky enough to go to a softball game last night. My wife, the little slugger, got the game-winning RBI in the first round of the finals. Her team, the Pirates, lost the final championship game, however, to Orange Eye Candy. It had been getting late, and I think the defense on both sides was tired. A nasty third and fourth inning left the Pirates trailing by several runs.
While the Pirates didn't win the plaque, they did win the hearts of the crowd who came up with the following cheer:
Give me an "R" - Arr!
Give me a "U" - Arr!
Give me an "N" - Arr!
Give me an "S" - Arr!
What does that spell? - ARR!!
Classic.
There's one more game left, the all-star game. Vân was chosen as the all-star female for the Pirates. After that it will be a long, cold winter...

Fox News ....grr!
For some odd reason, the first game of the 103rd World Series was not broadcast last night. ESPN radio was doing its job well enough, but someone in the TV business really dropped the ball, as they say.
As I desperately looked for a channel - any channel of my 500+ channels - which was broadcasting this important game, I caught a quick commercial on FSN that I shouldn't miss "the first game of the 2007 World Series tomorrow, Thursday Oct 25.". I was like, WTF? Thurs is game 2!
Now, granted, it probably wasn't the worse thing to miss this game. It was a Boston bonanza at Fenway, but nonetheless it was still one of the last games this year. Some of us start to go into baseball withdrawal in October.
Memo to the suits at FSN and ESPN: stop showing us crap like 'Ruffian' and 'High school football' when you could be showing us historic Fenway park where the best of the best are playing the greatest game ever played. You've got an obligation to bring us our American pastime, a part of our cultural identity for the last 100+ years.

Quick! What's the capitol of Maryland?
Give up? It's Annapolis. Yeah, I had to look it up, too.
Vân's going to be in Maryland next week for a business trip. I'm pretty bummed about that. I probably would be more bummed, but I'm going to be pretty busy next week. I'll be in the office a lot more because I'm subbing for some other teachers.
I'm set though: I got some bagels and bananas - these are vital to wifeless survival. I plan on eating at the Vietnamese restaurant by our house, Oodles of Noodles. It's going to be a phở-n week.
Next weekend we're heading up to the bay area again to visit Thong and Becca. They're having a home blessing. Right after that, however, Vân might have to fly over to Florida for work.
Sad quá. :-(

A Terabyte is (Almost) 1,000 GBs!
Last night Vân and I bought a 1TB external harddrive. Em's pretty excited about storing all our movies, pics, and music on there. She has this whole system about how it is suppose to work.
When we got it all hooked up, however, we found out it really only has 909 GB. What a rip off!
